The white basilica on the hill
Crowning the Butte Montmartre, the Basilica of the Sacré-Cœur is visible from almost everywhere in Paris. Built between the 1870s and 1914 in pale travertine stone that stays white in the rain, it offers from its steps one of the finest panoramas of the city. Visitors reach it by the long flights of steps above Square Louise-Michel, by the little funicular, or through the winding streets of the old village.
The climb is part of the experience. So is the tiredness that follows.
Downhill all the way
Here is the reward: the salon is below you. From the basilica, you walk across the top of the hill and then let the slope carry you down rue Lepic, past the windmills and the artists’ houses, to Place Blanche and the Moulin Rouge. Rue de Bruxelles leads flat from there to number 42. About 17 minutes, and hardly any effort.
If you prefer not to walk, the metro is easy: from Anvers, at the foot of the gardens, line 2 takes you in three stops to Place de Clichy, two minutes from our door. Our page on massage near Pigalle covers that part of the line.
After the steps, the warmth
Few monuments ask as much of your legs as the Sacré-Cœur, especially if you also climb to the dome for the view. By the time you come down, calves, thighs and lower back are asking for mercy.
That is exactly where a Thai body to body massage comes in. It begins with a hot shower, then firm hand pressure on the tired muscles, drawn from traditional Thai massage. Then your masseuse spreads warm oil over your skin and her own, and glides slowly along your legs and back with her whole body. The effect is enveloping and deeply soothing.
On a cold or windy day on the hill, the hot oil candle massage is especially comforting: the warm wax becomes a soft, fragrant oil on the skin.

- Midday: lunch around Place du Tertre or in the lanes towards Abbesses.

Frequently asked questions
How far is the Sacré-Cœur from the massage salon?
About 17 minutes on foot, and the good news is that it is downhill almost all the way. The simplest route goes west across the hilltop, then down rue Lepic to Place Blanche, where rue de Bruxelles begins. The salon is at number 42, at the far end of the street, near Place de Clichy.
What is the easiest way down from the Sacré-Cœur if my legs are tired?
Take the funicular or the steps down to Square Louise-Michel, then walk a few minutes to Anvers station. Line 2 towards Porte Dauphine brings you to Place de Clichy in three stops, Pigalle and Blanche in between. From the exit, the salon is a two-minute walk.
Which massage helps most after climbing Montmartre?
Legs and lower back take the strain of the hill, so choose at least 45 minutes. Your masseuse begins with firm hand work inspired by traditional Thai massage, then moves on to the body to body glide with warm oil. The hot shower before and after also helps the muscles loosen.
